One of my fondest childhood memories was walking out of my grandparent's apartment complex and across the street to May's Bakery. Waiting there would always be a clear case full of various buns, cakes, and cookies. A dan tat or egg custard is a staple in any Chinese bakery. They make a great after dinner treat or to bring to a dinner party/potluck. I wanted to show appreciate for my culture, my childhood, and my love for cooking.
Some families are fortunate enough to have family members who make them at home from scratch using a recipe passed down from generation to generation. Homemade egg custards were not something that was passed down in my family. Hence, why I decided to learn how make them myself using a Tasty recipe I found online.
